You can connect your Pabbly Subscription Billing account to an AI assistant, such as Claude or ChatGPT, and work with your billing in plain words. For example: "How many customers joined this week?", "Which payments failed yesterday?" or "Pause the subscription of [email protected]."
The assistant reads your data to answer, and it can make some everyday changes for you, always with your approval.
How it works
Pabbly Subscription Billing has an MCP server. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI apps connect to other software. You don't need to know how it works. You add one link to your AI app, sign in with your Pabbly account, and choose what the assistant may do.
Server link: https://payments.pabbly.com/api/mcp
You can also find it in your account under Settings › MCP.
Setup guides:
What you need
- An account on Claude (claude.ai or the Claude desktop app) or ChatGPT that can add a custom connector. Some plans and company workspaces don't allow this, or need an admin to turn it on.
- Your Pabbly account login.
What the assistant can look up
- Your account: a summary of subscriptions by status, customers, products and plans, and which payment gateways are set up.
- Customers: find a customer by name or email and see their details.
- Subscriptions: find subscriptions by customer, status, plan, or renewal date, for example "renewing in the next 7 days".
- Invoices and payments: list and open invoices, payments, refunds and credits.
- Saved cards: the card brand and last 4 digits only. Full card numbers are never shown; Pabbly doesn't store them.
- Products, plans, add-ons and coupons, and the checkout link of a plan.
- Affiliates: your affiliates and what they earned, their commissions, payout reports, and pending affiliate requests. Affiliates' payment details (PayPal email, bank details) are never shown.
- Reports: sales, refunds, net revenue, new and cancelled subscriptions, MRR and renewals due, for any period, plus revenue over time and your top-selling plans.
What the assistant can change
Only if you chose Read and make changes when you connected:
Customers and subscriptions
- Create a customer, or update a customer's details.
- Cancel a subscription, now or at the end of the billing period, with one of the same cancellation reasons as in the dashboard.
- Pause a subscription now, at the end of its billing period, or on a date. You can also set the date it resumes.
- Change a subscription's next billing date.
- Move a subscription to another plan from its next renewal date. Nothing is charged when you ask; on that date the customer is billed for the new plan. Its add-ons and coupon are kept.
- Add or remove credit on a subscription.
- Create a link for a customer to log in to the customer portal, or to add a new card.
Invoices
- Record a payment you received outside the payment gateway, for example a bank transfer, and mark the invoice paid. This doesn't charge anyone; it only updates your records.
- Email an invoice to the customer again.
- Add or change an invoice note.
Products, plans, add-ons and coupons
- Create a product, or rename it.
- Create a plan of any pricing model (flat fee, per unit, volume, tiered, stair-step, donation or variable), with trial, setup fee and billing schedule.
- Change a plan's name, price, setup fee, trial or quantity limits. New prices apply to new purchases; existing subscriptions keep the price they were bought at.
- Create add-ons, and edit coupons (end date, redemption limit, plans).
- Turn plans, add-ons and coupons on or off.
New plans and add-ons start inactive, so nothing goes on sale until you turn it on. Turning a plan on shows you its price and checkout link first.
Affiliates
- Approve or reject a pending affiliate request. Either way, the person gets an email.
What the assistant can't do, and why
These stay in your Pabbly dashboard:
- Refunds
- Creating a subscription
- Charging a card
- Resuming a paused subscription. Resuming can charge the customer straight away.
- Changing a subscription's plan immediately. An immediate change charges or credits the difference right away; through the assistant, a plan change happens at the next renewal.
- Deleting anything, such as customers, subscriptions, invoices, payments, products or plans.
Why: these actions take money from or return money to your customers, or can't be undone. In the dashboard you see the exact amount, the customer and the payment gateway before you confirm. A mistake there costs real money, so a person should make that decision on the screen, not through a chat.
If you ask the assistant for one of these, it should tell you to do it in the dashboard.
How your data and account stay safe
- You sign in with your Pabbly account, and you choose Read only or Read and make changes.
- You approve each change. Your AI app asks before it uses a tool, unless you have chosen to always allow that tool.
- You see a preview first. For changes such as a cancellation, Pabbly first shows what will happen: which customer, which subscription and when. The change is only made after you confirm.
- It only works in accounts you can use: your own account, your currency accounts, and accounts that others have shared with you. A shared account keeps the permission it was shared with, so a read-only shared account stays read-only.
- Changes are recorded. Everything changed through an assistant appears in Settings › Activity Log with the source AI Assistant (MCP).
- Secrets are never shown. Passwords, payment gateway keys and full card numbers never reach the assistant.
- You can disconnect at any time in Settings › MCP › Connected apps (click Disconnect), or in your AI app's settings.
Good to know
- Your conversation goes to the AI company. When the assistant reads your billing data to answer you, that data becomes part of your chat with Claude (Anthropic) or ChatGPT (OpenAI). It is handled under that company's privacy terms. Connect only if that is acceptable for your business.
- Assistants can make mistakes. The numbers come straight from your account, but the assistant can still misread a question. For important decisions, check the figures in your dashboard.
- Long lists come in parts. If there are many results, the assistant shows the first part. Ask "show more" for the rest.
- There is a speed limit. If many requests are sent in a short time, you are asked to wait a few minutes. This protects your account and the service.
- Amounts keep their currency. Amounts in different currencies are not added together.
Questions
Can my team members use it?
Yes. Each person connects with their own Pabbly login. They can work in the accounts shared with them, with the same permission as in the dashboard.
Can I change from read-only to read and change?
Disconnect, then connect again and choose the other option.
Can developers use it?
Yes. It works with Claude Code and other MCP apps. They can also connect with an API key from Settings › API Settings. An API key works only in its own account, and a read-only key can only read.
